New IT technologies and data protection challenges have fascinated Stefan Schuppert since he started his legal career 20 years ago. He advised clients on multiple and various e-commerce and information technology projects. Stefan makes sure that your new project masters the growing demands of international privacy regulation. With a background in both German and US law, Stefan has a deep understanding of what you expect and require for the drafting and negotiation of IT agreements and any project involving the international transfer of data, and what it takes to convince authorities that regulatory requirements are met.
Whether it is IT Outsourcing, licensing agreements, the transfer of customer or employee personal data across the globe, Big Data, connected cars, or eDigital Health: Stefan has advised clients for the last 20 years in managing complex technology transactions, and dealt with IP and IT legal issues in commercial and corporate transactions.
Starting with classical IP litigation and licensing agreements, Stefan quickly shifted to advising on technology projects in the thriving Munich and German market in the 90s, when also first concerns about the international transfer of data occurred. Since then, Stefan worked with clients in Europe, the U.S. and Asia. Currently, Stefan helps clients to navigate the waters of different and sometimes contradicting privacy and data protection regulation in the technology, automotive, and life science industry. Who's Who Legal Information Technology called him "one of the foremost IT lawyers in the world".
Stefan holds a doctorate degree in law, is admitted to the bar in Germany and in New York and graduated from Harvard Law School (LL.M.). Stefan was Co-Chair of Committee R (Technology) of the International Bar Association. Before his law studies, Stefan worked for two years as a nurse, and since that time has a hands-on-approach to problems, and not only in the life science industry.
