Jan supports his clients in cross-border IP conflicts such as trademark litigation as well as contract and settlement negotiations regarding IP matters. He has handled infringement cases as well opposition, revocation and invalidity proceedings before the German courts, the German IPO and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) including trademark disputes dealing with the subtleties of colour trademarks and other unconventional trademark types. Taping into his academic background he also focuses on copyright disputes and the rapid developments in European copyright law.
After completing his law studies, Jan first took up a two-year position as a research assistant at a recognized institute at the University of Kiel focusing on international procedural law as well as European copyright law. He later joined Hogan Lovells as legal trainee inter alia working on trademarks matters from our London office. Since starting as fully qualified lawyer in 2019 Jan has gained particular experiences in the enforcement and defence of single letter and colour trademarks as well as with coordinating company-wide extensive collection of proof of use. In his practice, Jan works closely with a world leading telecommunications and IT corporation protecting its brand, which according to Brand Finance ranks amongst the most valuable brands worldwide.
