Khaled Mowad focuses his practice on helping clients navigate the sensitive regulatory and commercial issues at the intersection of health care and innovation.
He has extensive experience advising on compliance with U.S. federal and state privacy regimes such as HIPAA, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the FTC Act, COPPA, and the laws governing genetic information such as the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA). Khaled dedicates substantial time to advising on the legal issues impacting clinical research and innovation. He has worked with numerous academic medical centers, disease foundations, and biotech companies helping them navigate the laws governing human research subject protections, set up research consortia and data repositories, and negotiate a wide range of research related commercial arrangements.
Khaled also regularly counsels digital health companies and works with them to advance their goals. He has worked with entrepreneurs, start-ups, and emerging businesses, as well as the investors that fund them, on understanding the legal implications around deploying digital health solutions, ranging from consumer wearables to telehealth platforms. He has advised on discrete areas relating to software as a medical device (SaMD), artificial intelligence, and other rapidly developing areas in health care.
