Hogan Lovells 2024 Election Impact and Congressional Outlook Report
We prize our friendly, team-oriented environment, which encourages professional development, strong associate-partner relations, and client contact early in your career. Our teams thrive on inclusivity, collaboration and support. And we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace, being a responsible business recognized as an employer of choice and market leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In 1970, we created a Pro Bono practice, the first firm to dedicate partners, counsel, paralegals, and Business Team professionals full-time to providing pro bono legal services. We offer associates many opportunities to dedicate time to pro bono work, including a fully immersive four-month rotation program for first-year associates. Also, we have a Senior Associate in charge of U.S. pro bono work for an 18-month rotational period. In October 2023, the Pro Bono Institute presented Hogan Lovells with the John H. Pickering Award in recognition of our commitment to promoting access to justice.
We are proud that in 2023, Hogan Lovells ranked first in Law360’s Social Impact Leaders list, which measures key indicators that we believe showcase the culture of our firm and our commitment to responsible business.
You will be part of an ambitious and diverse firm, providing advice that shapes sectors. We thrive on inclusivity and collaboration and create opportunities for ourselves and for each other. No matter where you are in your career journey, we are committed to helping you achieve your aspirations through ongoing professional and personal development and continuous learning.

Our goal is to invest in experiential teaching and learning opportunities to help you get ready to master aspects of the practice. There will be many opportunities to interact with our lawyers and clients on substantive matters, including the possibility of attending client meetings, closings, administrative hearings, oral arguments, and depositions. Throughout these opportunities you’ll receive mentoring and feedback to encourage your ongoing development throughout the summer program and beyond.
And of course, you’ll get to know your fellow summer associates, spending the summer in a new city or experiencing a place you already love from a new perspective.
Our summer associate program typically runs from mid-May to late July. During the program, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in our Summer Associate Conference, a multi-day training and networking experience hosted by our Washington, D.C., office. The conference brings together summer associates from across the U.S. to connect with and learn from our incredible attorneys and professionals, build directly applicable skills, and develop meaningful relationships across the firm.
Candidates for summer associate positions must be attending an ABA-accredited law school in the United States. Our application process provides various options. You can apply directly to us for a position in our summer program - we regularly interview and hire students who apply directly. We also participate in school sponsored recruiting programs and if we interview at your school you can apply through that process.
A resume or CV is required at the time of application and we encourage you to include a cover letter to tell us why you’re interested in the firm and the location to which you’re applying. Find out more about our current opportunities.
Candidates can apply for our 2L Summer Associate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion scholarship which is open to students who demonstrate a commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in their community, personal life and school. Read about our scholarship.

There is a fitness center on the lobby floor of our building, and membership is free for our employees. In addition, our building has an on-site emergency childcare center for children ages two months to 12 years, which is available to all employees.
We like to stay connected. We get together regularly for office-wide celebrations, Responsible Business activities, and informal get-togethers in the Hives (our communal spaces on each floor) and in our subsidized, full-service cafe, 1904.
What we do
Under the umbrella of our main practice groups—Corporate & Finance; Disputes; Global Regulatory; and Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology—our lawyers practice in more than 50 substantive areas. Virtually every practice group has a significant presence in our Washington, D.C., office.
We typically host a class of about 40 summer associates.
