16 October 2024 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells has once again been ranked in the Social Mobility Employer Index, marking the eighth consecutive year of recognition for the firm’s ongoing commitment to social mobility. The firm continues to be featured among the top 75 employers, a list compiled annually by the Social Mobility Foundation, which assesses UK employers on their efforts to open up opportunities for talent from all social backgrounds.
Led by the Social Mobility Foundation, the Social Mobility Employer Index measures and ranks employers based on the actions they take to ensure inclusivity and access. Hogan Lovells remains steadfast in its efforts to widen access to the legal profession and promote an inclusive workplace for people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Christopher Hutton, Social Mobility Partner Sponsor at Hogan Lovells, commented: “We are proud to have been listed in the Top 75 for the eighth consecutive year. Our commitment to social mobility is at the heart of our recruitment strategy, but we are equally focused on retention, progression, and inclusion. Through our Social Mobility Network, we are working to ensure that individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds have the support they need to succeed, which ultimately benefits our people, our clients, and our business."
This year, the Index recognized several key strengths in the firm’s submission:
- Outreach initiatives: The firm’s targeted outreach continues to effectively engage a wide range of schools and young people, with a clear link to the firm’s recruitment pipeline.
- Tracking success: We have robust mechanisms in place to track the progress of applicants from lower socio-economic backgrounds and ensure they are supported throughout the recruitment process.
- Accessible information: The firm’s Graduate Recruitment website offers comprehensive details about our programmes, application processes, and insights into life at Hogan Lovells, making the legal profession more accessible.
- Support for applicants: Hogan Lovells continues to absorb costs related to travel and accommodation for candidates, a crucial offering given the current cost of living challenges.
- Internal engagement: The launch of our Social Mobility Network has been instrumental in encouraging colleagues to share their stories, fostering a supportive and inclusive culture within the firm.
- Client engagement: The firm continues to collaborate with clients on social mobility initiatives, sharing insights and best practices through its Social Mobility Network and our participation in The General Counsel for Diversity and Inclusion’s Social Mobility Pillar.
- Apprenticeship scheme: Additionally, last year, the firm announced the launch of its Solicitor Apprenticeship Scheme, an important step towards diversifying the legal profession and opening new pathways for talented individuals from all backgrounds.
