Hogan Lovells advises London's Air Ambulance Charity on new helicopter acquisition

Press releases | 01 October 2024

London’s Air Ambulance is a critical service providing advanced trauma care to those suffering life-threatening injuries. Its team responds to patients who are so seriously injured that they require urgent interventions, such as open chest surgery and blood transfusions, directly at the scene of incidents - offering patients the best chance of survival and the highest possible quality of life.  The cost of these new helicopters, which are so critical to the delivery of the service, has been entirely funded by donations by the charity’s individual and corporate donors through the “Up Against Time” appeal.

Hogan Lovells has been working on this project with the charity since 2021, advising on the legal aspects of purchasing the new helicopters, negotiating support contracts and addressing key ancillary issues. Richard has also participated in the charity’s project board throughout the process. This continues the firm’s significant pro bono contributions, which included legal advice to the charity on a previous acquisition and financing of one of the existing helicopters in 2015.

Yasmin Waljee OBE, International Pro Bono Partner at Hogan Lovells, commented: “As a long-standing pro bono client, we are honoured to support London’s Air Ambulance Charity once again. The charity’s work is essential to saving lives across London, and we are extremely proud to be part of this important mission.”

Richard Goss, Hogan Lovells partner and lead legal advisor on the helicopter acquisition, added: “London’s Air Ambulance is a charity that relies heavily on public donations, so we are extremely privileged to be able to offer our pro bono support for this crucial service. Contributing to the acquisition of these new helicopters has been incredibly rewarding, and we look forward to continuing our support of the charity’s vital, life-saving work.”

Jonathan Jenkins, CEO of London’s Air Ambulance Charity, said:

“From the beginning of our fundraising campaign, we knew that the strong relationships we have with the communities and businesses of the city we serve would be vital in hitting our target. As a London-based business, the long-term support of Hogan Lovells is something that is hugely valued by everyone at London’s Air Ambulance Charity.

The arrival of our new helicopters is truly momentous for our charity and – most importantly – our patients. It simply could not have been achieved without the unwavering backing of our supporters across London – and Hogan Lovells exemplify that.”
