Richard Madris is one of the leading infrastructure fund lawyers in the United States. According to Chambers, clients note Richard is “a real shining star.”

He represents some of the largest infrastructure and real asset managers in their most complex and high-profile funds and transactions.  

He advises clients on fund formation and investments and is well-known for creating JP Morgan’s Infrastructure Investments Fund, a leading open-end global infrastructure fund. Richard has helped his clients acquire or sell interests in more than US$25 billion of privately held investments in the infrastructure sector, and is an authority on open-end infrastructure and real assets funds in the U.S.

Richard’s recent experience includes the formation of multiple open-end and closed-end real asset funds, including for infrastructure, energy, real estate and private equity; the creation of social infrastructure funds and funds for renewables and carbon credits; the formation of distribution funds on behalf of Citibank; serving as counsel to multiple asset managers with respect to platform issues; guiding multiple acquisitions and financings of infrastructure assets on behalf of JPMorgan IIF and other asset managers; subscription line and fund financings; management team compensation matters; fund restructurings and GP-led transactions; and structuring investments and joint ventures for renewable portfolios,  transportation and water assets. 

Richard has advised a variety of LPs and investors in their investment strategies, fund investments, direct investments, and co-investments. He also structures complicated cross-border investments with fund consortium members from multiple countries.  

He advises private investment funds in both their formation and investment stages. He has experience with M&A, restructurings and securities offerings. Richard is often involved in structuring complex and innovative transactions, including developing new products.
