An experienced arbitration practitioner and advocate, George Harnett represents clients on complex, high value, cross-border disputes. George represents clients in commercial disputes in a range of sectors, including oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, medical technology and financial services. George also has particular experience of disputes involving the Dubai International Financial Centre.

George is a barrister and an experienced advocate. He conducts advocacy and cross-examination at all stages of the arbitration process. He has full rights of audience at all levels of the English courts and has rights of audience before the courts of the DIFC.

George has worked on numerous arbitration proceedings under the LCIA, ICC, HKIAC, UNCITRAL and other sets of arbitral rules. This has included arbitrations seated in Hong Kong, Paris and other jurisdictions as well as arbitrations seated in London.

George is known for being hard working and producing high quality advice, analysis and advocacy. He is particularly valued by clients for his deep engagement with their commercial objectives and his practical and commercial approach to finding solutions.

Representative experience

Representing the claimant and its insurer as lead counsel in a Paris-seated ICC arbitration under the expedited procedure concerning unpaid invoices in a sale of goods contract.
Representing a medical device manufacturer as junior counsel in a London-seated LCIA arbitration concerning the development and marketing of an add-on medical technology product.
Representing a European pharmaceutical company in a London-seated LCIA arbitration and LCIA mediation concerning a distribution agreement for pharmaceuticals in North America.
Representing an investor as junior counsel in a London-seated LCIA arbitration concerning a complex share purchase dispute.
Representing a consultant in a Zurich-seated ICC arbitration in connection with a consultancy agreement supporting a major power construction project in the Middle East.
Representing a major gas importer in a Hong Kong-seated HKIAC arbitration concerning the long-term supply of LNG.
Acting for parties in a range of claims before the DIFC Courts.
