On 15 December 2020, the EU Commission published its draft proposals for the Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA). The DSA, alongside the DMA, is part of the EU Commission’s digital strategy aiming to reinforce the Digital Single Market and to realize the full potential of eCommerce.
The Digital Services Act provides a staggered set of obligations and liability rules for intermediaries (such as online marketplaces, search engines, social media sites, and other platform operators), hosting services, online platforms, and special rules for very large online platforms. The Digital Markets Act enables the European Commission to designate certain online platforms as ‘gatekeepers’ and to impose an extensive list of antitrust-inspired obligations on those platforms.
As part of our virtual event series ‘Shaping Europe's Digital Future’ we are delighted to invite you to our webinar on the EU Digital Services Act package on Tuesday, 16 February. Our speakers will give an overview of the draft legislation and take you through the key aspects of the proposed new rules for companies offering digital services to EU citizens. Future webinars in this series will include various topics relating to the DSA and DMA.
Stay tuned for an invitation on the upcoming webinar about the UK’s proposed equivalent regimes to the DSA and DMA – the Online Safety Bill, which will regulate illegal and harmful online content, and a new competition regime for large digital platforms that is to be enforced by the UK’s Digital Markets Unit.
