Implications from Digital Realty Trust, Inc. v. Somers

The Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously concluded that the anti-retaliation provision of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act protects only those individuals who provide information relating to a violation of the securities laws to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Individuals who report such violations to their employer or another entity receive no protection under Dodd-Frank unless they also report to the SEC.
