Shop the Office in New York
As a green initiative during Citizenship Month in October, our New York office launched "Shop the Office" - named after the common U.S. phrase "shop your closet" - to encourage the recycling of used office supplies.
The initiative asked that all requests for office supplies (pens, binders, folders, and similar items) be directed to our operations manager and office services coordinator, who in turn searched throughout the office to find those items in used condition rather than ordering new items. We were able to locate items to fulfill all requests by collecting from file rooms, copy rooms, empty desks, and offices, and as a result, our New York office saved the approximately US$10,000 that is generally spent monthly on supplies.
Multiple offices have since imitated this activity to further reduce and reuse office suplies in their region.
