Springing to action
When news broke that refugees were being detained at international airport hubs across the United States, a coalition of immigration and refugee assistance organizations put out a call for lawyers from across the legal community to volunteer to help the detainees. We responded.
More than 20 of our people were on the ground during that first weekend at international airports in New York, Virginia, and California, helping those who had been detained. On Monday following the order, we convened an internal task force to manage our efforts, share best practices, and agree to next steps for those affected by the ban.
Throughout the first week, we opened four new related pro bono matters – one in Baltimore, two in New York, and one in California.
We will continue to support those who are affected by the ban, identifying matters we can assist on and coordinating with other law firms and pro bono clients for the greatest impact.
