Carol A. Licko

Known for her legal acumen, tenacity, and problem-solving skills, Carol Licko brings deep experience and judgment to the most difficult client problems ranging from winning multi-jurisdictional complex litigation matters to successfully establishing new internationally renowned scientific research centers. She finds client-based solutions to cutting-edge issues involving public-private partnerships, public financing, licensing, and intellectual property matters.

As a partner in our Litigation group, Carol focuses on complex commercial and healthcare litigation at all levels from trials through appeals, the life sciences, healthcare (including hospitals and medical research institutes), financial institutions, business and educational law. She has represented clients in state and federal trial courts throughout Florida and has argued appeals in the Florida Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit, and various Florida District Courts of Appeals.

Her service as general counsel to former Governor Jeb Bush has given her considerable experience in Florida governmental affairs, including healthcare, educational reform, and governmental relations.

Carol was recently named among the 20 Most Influential Women Lawyers in South Florida by the Daily Business Review (DBR), was recognized as a DBR Top Dealmaker for 2013 in Public Finance, was named a South Florida Distinguished Attorney for 2015, and received the DBR's Lifetime Achievement Award for her legal achievements and community service.

Prior to becoming a member of the Florida Bar, Carol was a teacher and administrator for the Miami-Dade County Public School System, where she was named Dade County's Teacher of the Year and runner-up for the state of Florida's Teacher of the Year.

Representation of a major university and its medical school in efforts to reduce costs of medical malpractice cases.

Represented a lab testing services provider in putative class action against claims for alleged violations of Fair & Accurate Credit Transaction Act.

Represented major lender in litigation brought by estates of nursing home residents on claims for fraudulent conveyance and breach of fiduciary duty.

Represented major nonprofit hospital system in putative class action and other litigation involving hospital charges to insured and uninsured patients.
